Gardasil Vaccine – Comprehensive Protection Against Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
The Gardasil vaccine provides protection against diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. These include:

- Precancerous lesions of the anus and genital warts, in both men and women.
- Anal and cervical cancer.

HPV types 16 and 18 are responsible for:
- Approximately 70% of cervical cancer cases.
- Between 75% and 80% of anal cancer cases.
- About 70% of precancerous vulvar and vaginal lesions related to HPV.
- Around 75% of HPV-related precancerous anal lesions.
On the other hand, HPV types 6 and 11 are responsible for approximately 90% of genital warts cases.
Why get vaccinated?
Getting vaccinated against this virus protects you from these conditions. Even if you have already had an HPV infection, the vaccine is still effective, as it provides protection against the four main types of the virus.
Recommended vaccination schedule:
- Girls and boys between 9 and 12 years old: 2 doses.
- Up to 15 years old: 2 doses may still be administered.
- Ages 15 to 45 (men and women): A 3-dose schedule is recommended (administered at months 0, 2, and 6).
